From this terrific chart we see that the guitar was once a more masculine instrument. It ought to be pointed out that in the hands of a master, the violin can play considerably higher, thanks to harmonics. Several classical compositions demand pitches from the violin that aren't available on any piano, and hard to coax out of a piccolo. At the other end, large pipe organs and the Imperial Bösendorfer piano can produce pitches below the standard bottom A (27 Hz).
